Is Elton John ready to call it quits? After saying he was done on Tuesday (July 15), he has apparently backtracked on his words only one day later.

ABC News Radio says that, while performing at the Festival de Carcassone in France, John told the crowd, "No more shows, no more music, no more songs." He said that he was going to spend the rest of his time with his family, which is comprised of his partner David Furnish, and their two children, Zachary (3) and Elijah (18 months). However, a brief call to his representative set the record straight.

"He's not retiring," she said. The U.K. tabloid the Mirror also quoted his spokesman as saying, "Elton was only joking."

Back in 1977, John announced that he was retiring, but it didn't take hold, with the release of 'A Single Man' coming a year later. However, as recently as 2012, he said that he would consider quitting when Zachary, then his only son, began school.

John's current European tour runs through the end of July. He will begin a month-long trek across North America in September, and will return to Europe in November. Elton John will close out the year with a show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Dec. 31. The full schedule can be found at his website.
