Following Central Maine Power's lead, Emera Maine will be dropping the rate of it's standard offer by 14% for most of it's customers.

State regulators set a rate of 6.5 cents per kilowatt-hour that will hold for a ten month period, beginning in March and ending in December.  The current standard offer rate for Emera Maine customers is 7.57 cents.

This ended months of speculation that local standard offers would follow other New England states leads and increase by double digit percentages.  Natural gas, the fuel used to produce most electricity in our area is in short supply, and officials thought that the rates would increase because of that.

Officials said that the dip in oil prices has led the the lowering of of the standard offers.

Either way, falling energy prices are a very pleasant surprise!
