What will we do with all this spare time?!

Hey look! I wrote another article about Facebook...surprise! I nerded out over this study conducted by Princeton University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The newly published study suggests Facebook could loose 80% of its user base over the next four years.

The study is called 'Epidemiological Modeling of Online Social Network Dynamics,' say that five times fast...don't hurt yourself. The study viewed Facebook as a contagious disease, because it is.

In the 'infection' phase (someone becomes a user) an individual becomes infected by being exposed to a certain number of infected (users) people. Isn't that how you became a user? Friends and family told you to join and you did after enough convincing or 'exposure.'

The study says Facebook has reached it's infectious peak. Makes sense, considering everyone and their grandmother has a Facebook account, literately. People are now in 'recovery mode.' This means more people will be exposed to folks that have quit Facebook. The more 'recovered' people one is surrounded by, the more likely they are to follow suit in quitting Facebook.

Researchers think Facebook will see a rapid decline (like Myspace) in users, in the next few years. By December 2014, Facebook might shrink to 20% of its maximum size. Between 2015 and 2017 Facebook will gradually loose 80% of it's prime user base.

Soooo...Twitter anyone?
