Kid-friendly activities in Downtown Bangor today will celebrate Earth Day and the importance of Bangor's Community Connector.

Families are invited to Pickering Square between 11 and 2 today for things like face-painting, story times, sidewalk art, and other kids' activities. There will be music, food vendors, and maybe even a surprise! Door prizes will be up for grabs, and there will be donated books for the kids to take home. For more information, log onto the event's Facebook page.

The message behind the event is that organizations like Community Partnerships for Protecting Children, Transportation for All, Food and Medicine, and Power in Community Alliances want to stress the importance of public transportation, including the Community Connector bus service. Public transportation is good for the environment, since it means less individual vehicles on the road, and it's essential to the community to allow residents to get back and forth to work. The groups are encouraging the City of Bangor to decide in favor of a proposed extension of Community Connector service hours into the evening.

Kids on vacation? Here's a cool way to spend a little time in Downtown Bangor and have some fun!
