Smoke detectors and sprinklers prevented an early morning hotel fire from spreading. The State Fire Marshal's office is now investigating to determine how it started.

A spokesperson for the Brewer Fire Department confirmed for us that a fire was called in at around 12:30 a.m. Friday from the Brewer Motor Inn. Police officers were the first on the scene and used fire extinguishers to contain the flames until the Fire Department arrived.

Damage to the building was not immediately noticeable from the street but is said to be mostly restricted to the exterior. One person is said to have sustained a very minor injury to their hand after touching a doorknob.
