Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I grabbed my favorite Marvel Comics and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘Ant Man’

This is an Action, Sci-fi movie that runs just two hours. The film is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Hayley Atwell, Corey Stoll, Michael Douglas

Summary:

Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) at one time pulled a Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor thing, as revenge and wound up in prison.  The movie picks up upon his release as he tries to go straight and deserve the admiration of his young daughter.  Unable to keep a job as an ex-con he decides to break into a mysterious vault and winds up stealing a suit that can make him shrink to the size of an insect. He returns the suit but is convinced by the designer Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to help him use it to save the world.

Review:

I have really grown to respect the casting director of all the Avengers/Marvel films.  They seem to find just the right actor each character need to become likable and believable. Paul Rudd is just that.  Michael Douglas is also well cast and I love Evangeline Lilly. That said, I was still struggling with the concept as I was walking into the theatre but was soon to be convinced it all makes perfect sense.  The writing on this film is terrific and surprisingly very funny.  I think I heard more laughter coming from this audience than in the last comedy I reviewed. Overall, the action way great, characters spot on and this movie jells so well.  Plus, for real Avengers fans there is plenty of references and special prep scenes for Ant Man to someday join the ranks.  On a scale of 1-10, I’m giving ‘Ant Man’ a 9.
