Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I put on my headlamp headed into depths in the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see  'As Above, So Below'.

This movie runs just over an hour and a half, is a horror, thriller and is Rated R for bloody violence/terror, and language throughout . This film stars some very good but little known actors: Ben Feldman, Perdita Weeks, Edwin Hodge, James Pasierbowicz, Oscar Zhang

Summary:

A young archeologist Scarlett Mono leads a team of explorers into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris. She is obsessed with completing the work her father was doing to prove the existence of alchemy’s greatest myth the fabled philosophers’ stone before his death and to show everyone including herself that he was not insane. However, as they head deeper into the earth beneath Paris they begin to encounter strange and disquieting regrets from their own varied pasts.

Review:

This movie was a nice surprise because it was really more than just a horror film. Its short run time made it manageable and the cast of fairly unknown actors added a sense of reality.  I am still not a fan of the hand-held camera effect but what cha gonna do.   I liked the implanted historical facts and Parisian mythology in the film plot adding some creditability. To sum up the overall feel and plot of this film, imagine taking one part ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, one part ‘Flatliners’, one part ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ and one part Prospect's Fort Knox ‘Fright at the Fort’ and put them into a blender, what comes out is this this film. On a scale of 1-10, I’d to give ‘As Above, So Below’ an 8.
