Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I headed into the sim machine at the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see 'Divergent Series: Insurgent'. This movie runs 2 hours and is an adventure, sci-fi, thriller. and is rated PG-13 for intense violence and action throughout, some sensuality, thematic elements and brief language.  The film stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Zoë Kravitz

Summary:

A continuation of the Divergent series in this leg Tris (Shailene Woodley) must try to put into perspective all the things she had to do in the first part of her story in order to save her faction and herself. She and her kind, Divergents, also appear to be the key to understanding a message left by their forefathers. Hoping to exploit this message the leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet) has them hunted to supposedly protect their community while what she really believes is that it will lead to the extinction of all Divergents.

Review:

Like all series films, many times the middle child is a little weak and built more for transition than individual impact. Good news is it was similar to the first installment in quality special effects. Slightly less good news, Insurgent spends a lot of time transitioning between dreams, sims and reality which can get a bit confusing. Overall I thought it flowed and got its point across. I did feel that someone who has read the books may have gotten more out of this movie.  So on a scale of 1-10, I’m giving 'Divergent Series: Insurgent' an 8.
