Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that suck! Over the weekend I puffed up my pompadour and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘Get On Up’.

This movie runs 2 hours and 18 minutes, is considered a biography, drama, music film and is Rated PG-13 for sexual content, drug use, some strong language, and violent situations. This film stars Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James .

Summary:

This movie tells the tale of James Brown the godfather of soul.  Starting from his abusive, extremely poor and troubled beginnings to his meteoric rise to fame  in a racially tense time in our history and how those two worlds mesh.

Review:

What a story and what and interesting personality James Brown was. Chadwick Boseman who I remember from the movie ‘42’ did such an excellent job. This is an excellent movie of how strength or character and belief in yourself can take you places and affect those around you in ways money alone can’t.  It also shows that money will not guard you from sadness and pain.  My only real complaint of this movie was the pacing.  I wish they had pared it to less than 2 hours. On a scale of 1-10, I’d to give ‘Get On Up’ a 7.
