Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that suck! Over the weekend Ma and I celebrated Easter at the Bangor Mall Cinemas seeing ‘Heaven is for Real’.

This movie runs just over an hour and a half, is considered a drama and is rated PG thematic material including some medical situations . This film stars Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly and Thomas Hayden Church to name a few.

Summary:

Based on a book of the same name this movie tells the tale of a family in the Midwest whose little boy has a near death experience and enters heaven. His father, a minister, and his church family struggle with their faith to believe that he did in fact do and see all the things of which he came back talking about.  Little Colton came back knowing the faces of family members that were gone before his birth and scenes from the hospital he could not see.

Review:

I read the book that inspired this film.  It was short and I wondered how they were going to make it into a feature length film.  They did this by delving more into the family and their troubles and tribulations before Colton's illness. For me that made the beginning run a little slow.  It was interesting to see played out  the reactions of his church family at first given that when you choose Christianity you are suppose to believe this without being told.  The book has encouraged millions of readers to the truth of God's love and plan and I felt the movie did very much the same. So if you are looking for an encouraging view of the after life this is a terrific place to go. On a scale of 1-10, I’d give ‘Heaven Is For Real’ an 9.
