Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend grabbed my spacesuit and headed to the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘Jupiter Ascending’.

This movie runs just about 2 hours and is a action, adventure, fantasy. The film is rated PG-13 for some violence, sequences of sci-fi action, some suggestive content and partial nudity. The film stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth

Summary:

A regular girl, Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) is the daughter of immigrants who helps her mother clean houses for a living. She by her own admission hates her life when suddenly she is swept up into a different world by a human-wolf hybrid named Caine Wise (Channing Tatum).  From there she is taught to understand that the earth is just one of many planets in the Universe seeded by powerful family of humanoids and she is by virtue of genetics entitled to join them.  However, the siblings in this family do not want her to gain and rights to their kingdom or enterprises and plan to eliminate her and only Caine Wise is there to try and protect her and her earthly family.

Review:

This film has amazing graphics.  I dare say reminiscent of Episode 1 of the Star Wars series in pageantry and costuming. From tech, to android characters, to landscape it was visually stunning. The story, characters, look and humor of this film also reminded me of ‘Fifth Element’. Channing Tatum performance was solid and bless him he had his shirt off for a good part of the film, Yowza! Mila Kunis is generally cast in the same basic likable character and this movie is no different and she plays it well. Eddie Redmayne's chosen low toned affect for his character Balem Abrasax made him a little hard to understand from time to time. The story was well told and had a good sense of fun. It also addresses the legends of aliens visiting the earth through out our history.   The plot was true to itself and the fight scenes were amazing.  So on a scale of 1-10, I’m giving ‘Jupiter Ascending’ an 8. Good show.

Show me everything playing right now at the Bangor Mall Cinemas
