Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Last night I grabbed my leash and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘Max’.

This is a family, adventure, drama movie that runs a little under two hours. The film is rated for action violence, peril, brief language and some thematic elements and stars Robbie Amell, Lauren Graham, Thomas Haden Church, Jay Hernandez, Luke Kleintank

Summary:

Dedicated to all the dogs and their handlers that have served in the armed forces over our history this is the story of Max the marine dog. Max is serving in Afghanistan with his trainer/partner Kyle. While on patrol to find hidden weapons they are ambushed and despite Max’s warning and best efforts Kyle is killed. At this point, Max is sent state side and marked for euthanization because he refuses and other handler. That’s when Kyle's family steps in and tentatively adopts Max who seems to have an instant bond with their troubled teen Kyle’s brother Justin.

Review:

If you love dogs this would be a pretty good film for you. It is obviously aimed at families with teens and preteens. It does have a few very sad moments but they don’t dominate the film. I thought it gave good insight to how dogs are used in war and military type situation. The family dynamic between Justin, his brother Kyle and his dad was very relatable. Probably the only hindrance in the movie was some of the writing and the green nature of most of the cast. So on a scale of 1-10, I’m giving ‘Max’ a 7.

Show me everything playing right now at the Bangor Mall Cinemas

If you have tissues here is the story of an actual soldier dog, very touching and sad but this is the reality.
