Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that don’t make the grade! Over the weekend I put on my game face and headed into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘Pixels’

This is an action, comedy, sci-fi movie that runs 1 and 3/4 hours. The film is rated PG-13 for some language and suggestive comments and stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad

Summary:

The story follows the lives of Brenner (Adam Sandler), Cooper (Kevin James) and Ludlow (Josh Gad).  Born into the first video game era, they are geeks personified. After losing a video competition Brenner grows into an adult believing he is a loser and does not lived the life he had hoped for. It all seems to be true until a video of 1982’s culture along with classic arcade games and culture that was shot into space is misinterpreted by aliens as a declaration of war causing them to attack us in the form of the classic games. This brings the long forgotten talents of Brenner, Cooper and Ludlow’s to the forefront and leaves them as the only ones who can save the world from annihilation.

Review:

The movie Pixels is a cute concept that had the potential to be entertaining.  I confess when I saw Chris Columbus directed the film my hopes built a little. I even chose to see it in 3D to give it every chance to be good. What I found was a movie that seemed to be written for the characters that Sandler and James excel at playing, making it feel a little been there done that, maybe a few too many times. That said,  it had some funny lines and moments throughout.  Unfortunately, it never seemed to be able to breech cute long enough to be really funny and consistently good. Fun to see some of the old games and 80’s icons, it was still really just o.k. On a scale of 1-10, I’m giving ‘Pixels’ a 6.

Show me everything playing right now at the Bangor Mall Cinemas
