Summary:

Riddick was born on  the planet Furya  and known to be a notorious convict. His eye shine is due  eye surgery, or a "surgical shine job", as he calls it, from a doctor that gave him permanent night vision in exchange for "20 menthol KOOLs". This surgery made his eyes more sensitive to light, requiring him to wear welding goggles to protect them from bright light. Riddick also has the supernatural ability to ability to unleash a sort of energy wave. Highly intelligent and deadly with any weapon or in hand to hand combat Riddick is the stuff of legends. This film is the 3rd  in a series of movies the others being Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. In the latest installment Riddick is left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, finding himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick's past.

Review:

I have seen and enjoyed the other two Riddick movies and have come away with this impression, Riddick needs someone else to fight for in order to gain your interest as to what happens. In this chapter because he is on his own there is not enough depth of character to make you care. In the beginning he is left for dead on a back water planet and a lot of our time is spent plodding through his survival, without dialogue I might add. In fact star or no Vin Diesel's script is almost completely limited to single sentences. His adopted dog adds a little to the story but even that doesn't last.  You never develop empathy for him, the bounty hunters, the man from his past or his crew or the aliens looking to eat them.  I have to say it always amazes me when that much gun fire and explosions can be boring but it was.  Sorry Vin, but on a scale of 1 -10 I can't give Riddick more than a 5:(
