Flick Chick here once again in the pursuit of truth, justice and keeping you from spending your hard earned money on movies that suck! Over the weekend I was swinging solo over the city and into the Bangor Mall Cinemas to see ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’.

This movie runs just under 2 1/2 hours, is considered an action, adventure, fantasy and is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action/violence. This film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti

Summary:

Based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name this film as I understand it from comic book aficionados is more true to their story. In this installment Peter Parker although he loves being Spiderman, he struggles with the apparent abandonment of his parents and his promise to Gwen’s father who was killed while assisting Spiderman who’s last request was for Peter to stay away from Gwen to keep her safe even though they both love each other. Separate from that  plot line is Harry Osborn who is afflicted with a genetic illness and is looking for help from Peter’s father’s research for Oscorp before he disappeared. And in yet another aside to this story is Electro an invisible and somewhat abused Oscorp engineer and all his mental anxt. All in all the common thread for Harry, Gwen and Max is Oscorp and Spiderman.

Review:

I thought the special effects and animation were seamless and terrific. I like the Spiderman character personality created by Andrew Garfield, very believable. I also appreciate Sally Fields interpretation of Aunt May and Emma Stone’s Gwen is a most likable character.  Over all I liked the film but I must confess I thought it had a few too many plot lines going on. Peter’s parents story, Max’s story, Gwen’s story, Harry and his Dad’s story, Harry and Peter’s All told it is no wonder and somewhat amazing they fit it all into 2 ½ hours. A little too busy for my taste. Still, good action and plenty of drama and a story although convoluted was followable on a scale of 1-10, I’d give ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’ an 8.
