Based on the novel by Cassandra Clare, this film runs 2:00 Rated: PG-13 for intense sequences of fantasy violence and action, and some suggestive content

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Daughter of Phil Collins, Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series
Let me say right up front I have not read the books of this series. To me it was kind of Percy Jackson meets Twilight with just a dash of Harry Potter. Fantasy action packed and the special effect in the movie were very well done. I did read a book synopsis before going but I think the screen writer did a good job getting in all the important information and keeping the story complete. Lily Collins and her fellow actors did a great job meshing the character together, believable performances all. The only down side of the first movie in any series is there is a lot of time laying ground work so it can plod a little. Overall if you liked any of the other movies I mentioned in the start of my review I think you’ll find this one engaging and well done. Remember if you are planning to take someone under 13 the story deals with demons and some of them are nightmarish. On a scale of 1 – 10 I’d give this movie an 8.
