Summary:

Shy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and his daughter. Struggling with his parents divorce Duncan becomes withdrawn. Dreaming of escaping to live with his father while trying to live with his mother's choice he becomes understandably depressed. Things seem bleak until Duncan meet's and unlikely friend at the Water Wizz water park, Owen.  And although Owen is a bit of a screw up himself his love of fun and ability to see the value in everyone changes Duncan's perspective and changes ensue.

Review:

Although this movie has some very clever writing and funny characters it is in my opinion more of a drama.  The movie spent most of it's time reminding you that whether you make bad choices or someone else deal you a bad hand your kids will go along for the ride. This is played out in virtually every character in this movie.  It also poses the weighty question "Who determines your self worth?" and demonstrates the good or harm of using others to be our mirror. Over all it kept my interest. Some of the situations seemed a bit contrived. In the end they get it right.

On a scale of 1 – 10 I give’ The Way Way Back’ a 6
