Former Student Charged With Impersonating Police Officer at School Meeting

A teenager is accused of impersonating an officer at a high school lacrosse meeting. State Police say the man talked his way into the meeting by flashing a badge and a gun.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Troopers arrested 19-year-old Caleb Jackson of Wayne, who is a former student of Maranacook High School. Jackson allegedly flashed a badge and gun and talked his way into a post-game meeting of the school's boy's lacrosse team, that was taking place on the campus of the Kents Hill School. Both schools are located in Readfield.

Tuesday afternoon, the coach of the lacrosse team and Maranacook's athletic director were approached by Jackson, who convinced them he was a State Trooper and wanted to talk to the team about sexting. Jackson was then allowed to address the team.

After the meeting, school officials called the State Police. Trooper Jed Malcore located Jackson, who was still on school grounds, and took him into custody without incident. He's charged with impersonating a public servant, carrying a concealed weapon, and possessing a gun on school property. Trooper Jesse Duda also assisted in the investigation.

The gun Jackson had was in a holster on his belt, hidden under a coat, and was not removed from the holster at any time. There is also no indication that he threatened anyone. Troopers say the gun was loaded when they recovered it from Jackson's car.
