I wanted to take a ride to Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park, figuring that the area would be ice encased after two days of wind chills of about 20 below, and freezing spray. I was worried about the condition of the road given the partial government shutdown.

The road was ice-covered the entire way, although there was a little sand on it. I would definitely caution against going to Thunder Hole the next couple of days with the incoming rain, as the rain on top of the icy road will just ensure it's like a skating rink, especially with the lack of services.

As for Thunder Hole, it didn't disappoint. Although not booming, the ice was beautiful as you can see from the pictures. Temperatures were around 19 degrees when I took these photos.
