Billy Currington said it best with his hit 'Love Me Like My Dog Does.' For cancer patients, their dogs are a source of love, companionship, and comfort. So a fun event this Saturday will honor the canine companions in all our lives and benefit the American Cancer Society. You're invited to join us for the 'Greater Bangor Bark for Life!'

This is, by far, my favorite event of the year. I co-host the event with ABC 7's Craig Colson, and we're both dog lovers. The entire three-hour event centers around dogs. There are plenty of vendors on-hand to talk about their canine products and services. Need a new groomer or a daycare facility for your furry friend? I can pretty much guarantee someone will be there to fill you in on possibilities.

There are always some fun contests too! The event has new planners this year, so the types of contests may change. Last year we had costume contests, longest tail, and even a dog/human look-a-like contest! I'm proud to say that my guy Jim and our pup Copernicus won in Perni's weight class. (see them pictured above) It's the chin whiskers, I think!

There's still time to sign up for Bark for Life and join us at the Hollywood Casino Raceway on Saturday. Sign up a team or sign up as an individual. Or, if you prefer, just stop by on Saturday and, for a donation, you can join  the fun!

Now, don't think that you have to bring your dog. If your dog is not comfortable in social situations, you can come without them. Or, if you don't have a dog, but love them, we'd love it if you stopped by! Everyone I encountered last year was very welcoming of all attention paid to their four-legged pals. I spend all the time I'm not on-stage just running around petting all the dogs I come across. It's awesome!

The event wraps up with a sunset walk around the track. We circle the track once, so it's not a great distance. The sky is always beautiful and the dogs are so happy to walk together that it's the perfect ending to a very fun day.

The Greater Bangor Bark for Life will be held Saturday from 5 to 8 at the Hollywood Casino Raceway, right behind the Cross Insurance Center. For more information and to get signed up, log onto the Bark for Life website or Facebook page.
