According to results of a new Gallup poll, for the first time in history a majority of Americans favor the legalization of marijuana.  The results released yesterday say that 58% of people in this country favor legal pot for recreational use.

Back in 1969 only 12% of respondents favored legal pot.  Since the 1970s support of legal pot has more than doubled.

67% between the ages of 18 and 29 supported legalizing marijuana, while the majority of those opposed were over 65 years of age.

4 in 10 of the respondents to the poll admitted to using the drug.

A proposed bill submitted to the Maine legislature this year that would have legalize pot was shot down by committee.  Meanwhile in Portland, residents there will vote next month as to whether or not recreational use of marijuana would  be legalized within city limits.  The advertisements below can be seen on Portland city busses.
