Workers at Garelick Farms' distribution facility in Hermon got the news recently that they will be laid off.

Dean Foods, the company that owns Garelick informed the 26 employees that they will be consolidating its operations and that distribution of its products will soon be handled by a third party.

The good news is that the third party distributor, yet to be named, plans on hiring just about everyone that's being laid off.  The employees will also get a severance package from Dean Foods.

A spokesperson for Dean Foods said that the transaction should be completed by October of this year.

Back in October of 2012, Dean Foods ended dairy production at the Garelick Bangor facility which displaced 35 workers.  That facility had produced dairy products in Bangor since 1902 with Garelick Farms purchasing the property in 1994.
