Billionaire Stephen M. Rales recently purchased a home on Sargent Drive in Northeast Harbor worth an estimated $7 million, soon he will build a new home on the same property.

Rales plans on demolishing the current mansion built in 1927, cutting down approximately 300 trees in the process.  He will then have a new mansion built further back from the shoreline, and more than likely it will be worth even more.

Stephen M. Rales has now joined his brother, Mitchell P. Rales, as a homeowner on MDI.  Mitchell, currently owns Mount Desert Island's most expensive piece of property on Peobody Drive in Northeast Harbor.  The house was built in 2010 and overlooks Northeast Harbor.

Stephen Rales' home will be about three miles away from his brother's property.  The two brothers founded a company call Danaher Corp. which produces scientific equipment.

My question of the day is:  If you had more than enough money to build a mansion and live anywhere here in Maine, where would it be?

I would choose living on the shoreline in either Hancock or Sorrento.  I would love waking to the view of MDI from across Frenchman Bay each morning, and would enjoy the solitude of living on a peninsula.

Please let me know where you would build your dream home either in the COMMENTS section below or on Facebook!
