Leave the La-Z-Boy behind and head out into the great Maine outdoors this weekend!

The Sixth Annual Great Maine Outdoor Weekend presented by the Maine Outdoor Coalition is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

“Great Maine Outdoor Weekend" offers an opportunity for people across the state to get outside and enjoy the outdoors in every corner of the state,” says coalition member Kaitlyn Bernard of the Appalachian Mountain Club.  “For our 6th Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, we’re hosting events in all 16 counties.”

Outdoor activities for every family member are planned all over the state for this weekend!  Great stuff like star gazing, outdoor hiking and biking, mushroom hunting and the Maine Outdoor Film festival at the L.L. Bean Discovery Park in Freeport, among other events!

This year's Great Maine Outdoor Weekend coincides with National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands.  What this means for you is that the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, & the U.S. Forest Service offer free entry to any of their lands on Saturday, September 27th, including Acadia National Park!

The Hirundo Paddle and Walk goes on Saturday in Alton and The Wildlands Group Mountain Bike Ride happens on Sunday in Orland.  The Maine Outdoor Coalition has a great search feature on their website so that you can find stuff going on in your area!
