If you have been storing hazardous waste, then you will want to circle Saturday, August 18, 2012 on your calendar. That's the date that there will be a collection for household hazardous and universal waste at the Ellsworth High School from 9 AM to 12 Noon.

Households in Ellsworth, Deer Ilse, Gouldsboro, Mariaville, Sorrento, Sullivan, Trenton, Winter Harbor, and the Unorganized Territories in Hancock may dispose up to 5 gallons of liquid material or 20 pounds of solids at no cost. Household quantities of electronics also will be accepted. Pre-registration with your town office is required.
The following are acceptable items: household cleaners, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, unused gasoline, linseed oil, waste automobile oil, adhesives/solvents, automobile oil, fluorescent bulbs, computer monitors, televisions, mercury thermometers, and rechargeable batteries.
