A six-month old seal pup that made a six-mile pilgrimage from the waters of the Atlantic to the parking lot of a local pizza joint in Massachusetts is making headlines across the country!

Meet Houston, a 40 lbs. furry seal pup who swam six miles up a creek, under busy Route 6A  where the marsh crosses the road, and then up into the parking lot of Yarmouth Pizza by Evan, according to the Cape Cod Times.

Folks who were quite amazed to see a seal so far from the ocean gathered it up into a box and called the Yarmouth Police Department, who eventually named the seal Houston and posted it's photo on Facebook.

Harbor seals in Maine are born in the spring and spend up to six-months with their mother.  At times, mother seals will abandon their young on a beach for up to 24 hours while they feed elsewhere.  Authorities here in Maine urge you to leave seals alone, but if you're concerned, you can call the Maine Marine Animal Reporting Hotline, 1-800-532-9551.
