Every week we feature a new hometown and share photos and facts using hashtags on social media. This week our #hashtag hometown is Prospect!

We had to feature this town at this time because the towns biggest attraction is about to begin it's biggest event of the season! The town is home to about 700 but is heavily visited in the summer with two of the states biggest tourist attractions!

In addition to some beautiful homes and views the town is also home to America's first Fort Knox. A large granite fort that began building in the early 1840s in preparation for defending against the British coming up the Penobscot River, like had happened in the Battle of Hampden.

The fort took about 25 years to build and was actually never finished and never saw battle. Today it is a state historic site that is privately run by the Friends of Fort Knox offering seasonal activities including their upcoming Fright at the Fort Halloween event.

The Friends of Fort Knox also staff the nearby observation tower in the large and impressive cable stay bridge that connects the Penobscot Narrows Bridge from Prospect of Verona Island. The observatory takes you up in an elevator over 420 feet and gives you a view of the surrounding area. It is the tallest bridge observatory in the western hemisphere, and it's right here in Prospect!

Here are some great photos we found on Instagram of Prospect:
