Heart’s Ann Wilson Takes Rock Hall Snub in Stride

Heart may not have made the Rock and Roll Hall of fame the first time around, but where some acts get upset about not being chosen on the first ballot, singer Ann Wilson seem to be taking things in stride.

She tells the Examiner, “I think that [an acknowledgement from] the Rock Hall is an honor … it’s really great, especially from your peers. Pretty cool.”

When asked if she felt that one day their name would be called, Wilson responded, “Oh God, I have no idea. I really don’t know. I don’t know what kind of political situation goes on behind the scenes with that. If it happens, I sincerely hope it happens at a time when we are still out there being current as a rock band. I wouldn’t want it to wait for 10 years from now or 15 years from now when we’re kind of sitting in rocking chairs and then they haul them out to the Rock Hall, you know? I would rather it happen like the [Red Hot] Chili Peppers, who go up there this year and just clean up – they’re so good and so vital – they’re playing. You can tell they’re current.”

The Rock Hall nominations have been the discussion of much debate, as a string of seemingly deserving harder rock acts has been consistently overlooked while pop and even rap acts have been honored. When asked about what acts is the biggest snub in her opinion, Wilson responded, “How about Rush? [laughs] That’s sort of a strange situation. God, who else? I don’t know. I don’t have a list in front of me, but that would be the one that would be a big standout for me.”

Rock Hall or not, Heart aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. Earlier this year, they issued the ‘Strange Euphoria‘ box set; the Wilson sisters’ new book, ‘Kicking and Dreaming,’ just arrived in stores; and the new album, ‘Fanatic,’ arrives Oct. 2. Plus, Heart will be honored Sept. 25 in Los Angeles with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
