A Blackhawk helicopter from the Maine Army National Guard was used to rescue an injured Appalachian Trail hiker Wednesday.

The Maine Warden Service says a 14-year-old boy from Virginia suffered a leg injury on Barren Mountain, southeast of Greenville.

Game wardens hiked 4.5 miles to reach the injured hiker.

The helicopter responded the scene to get the boy off the mountain. Crew members lowered a litter and hoisted the victim into the aircraft.

The teen was taken to C.A. Dean hospital in Greenville for treatment of his injury.
