It's been a couple of weeks now.  Contracted crews have been cutting trees, erecting new utility poles, stringing new wire, and State Police have been slowing the traffic down.

Emera Maine tells us in a press release that, "the Route 1A project aims to ensure reliable delivery of electricity to customers in the area from Bangor to Ellsworth.  The work will replace utility infrastructure that has reached the end of its life and will ensure easier access for any necessary repairs in the future."

Night work is being  planned in that area beginning around the beginning of May, and Route 1A may be closed for "periods of time" at night to allow the work to take place.  Watch for signs telling you when this will happen, and any detours that may be available.

Cops have traffic slowed down to 45 mph on the stretch of highway between the Dedham fire station and the bridge at the bottom of the hill.  Authorities remind you to pay close attention and slow down within the construction area, an area where it's not uncommon for vehicles to travel well above the posted speed limit.
