The Maine Warden Service says a Hampden man was killed last night in a snowmobile crash in Hermon. The accident near Hermon pond happened at around 9 last night.

Corporal John MacDonald of the Warden Service said in a press release that Austin Gardner, 41, of Hampden was riding with a 15-year-old male who was riding on a separate sled, following behind him. Gardner was killed when his snowmobile struck several trees near the shoreline of Hermon Pond.

MacDonald says speed an alcohol do appear to have been factors in the crash. This is Maine's sixth snowmobiling fatality this season.
