The 18th Annual Regional Residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be held on Saturday, October 5th at the Bangor Public Works building, 530 Maine Avenue, in Bangor.

Folks in Bangor, Brewer, Carmel, Clifton,Dedham,Dixmont, Eddington, Etna, Hampden, Hermon, Glenburn, Milford, Newburgh, Old Town, Orono, Winterport, and Stockton Springs can take part. Preregistration is required. Stop by your town office before October 5th to pick up a permit.

There are a couple of changes this year, including that the City will be accepting latex paints! You can also get rid of other hazardous waste like oil-based products (motor oils and automotive fluids), turpentine, gasoline, etc. Items containing mercury will also be accepted.

The City will also be accepting Universal waste like televisions and fluorescent light bulbs. Time to get rid of all of the stuff you don't want lying around the house/yard all winter!

One big change this year is that the City will NOT be accepting banned or unusable pesticides at the same event. A separate pesticide collection day will be held later in the month. The tentative date, at this point, is October 23rd. Residents, family-owned farms, and greenhouses can pick up registration forms at their town office. The deadline for registering is September 27th, 2013. Remember, this is for the pesticide collection only!
