An accident in Howland this morning sent a teenager to the hospital after her mother’s car was hit by a semi. State Police say wearing a seatbelt likely saved her life.

A woman and her teenage daughter were hit by a tractor trailer after their sedan hit a bump on the Piscataquis River bridge and the mom lost control of the vehicle. The car began to spin, hitting the bridge several times and the truck driver had no choice but to hit it on the passenger side.

The teen was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. State Police have not disclosed the extent of the girl’s injuries but said wearing her seatbelt likely saved her life.
