Police say human remains have been found in the town of Byron.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the skeletal remains were found by a hunter Tuesday off the Weld Road, about a mile into the woods. The hunter reported the finding to the Oxford County Sheriff's Office. On Wednesday, a team from the State Police, Maine Warden Service, and deputies from Oxford and Franklin counties recovered the remains.

A number of searches have taken place since last December after 46-year-old Derek Adams went missing on December 28th. Adams lived nearby and his family has been notified of the discovery.

The remains have been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification. Officials say it's likely that DNA analysis will be necessary.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
