The fur will fly beginning tomorrow!

Earlier this year state officials awarded 45,000 "any deer" permits to hungry Maine hunters, sixty percent more than last year.  The winter of 2015-16 was a mild one, and the deer herd flourished.

"Maine Resident Only Day" is tomorrow, Saturday the 29th, with "firearms season" beginning for everyone on Monday, the 31st.  Deer hunting season continues until Saturday, November 26th.

Hunters are allowed to take one deer per year.  Maine law states: Only deer with antlers at least three inches long may be taken from Oct. 29 - Dec. 10, except that any deer may be taken in designated wildlife management districts by hunters with any-deer permits.  Legal hunting hours are a half-hour before sunrise until a half-hour following sunset.

If you're venturing into the woods, remember to wear your "hunter's orange!"
