Tonight’s featured artists were so effected by their band mates mental illness they wrote a song about it.  The song turned out to be one of the band’s biggest hits. Any guess of the band or the song?

We’ll start with the song, ‘Wish You Were Here’ this one by the band Pink Floyd.  The song is often thought of as being about the detached feeling most people go through life with. However, it is actually the members of the band’s commentary on how Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett suffered with schizophrenia and drug addiction.  According to  Roger Waters the inspiration was based on a poem he wrote about Syd Barrett's fall from reality and being unable to continue with the band.According to Wikipedia:  Through late 1967 and early 1968, Barrett's behavior became increasingly erratic and unpredictable, partly as a consequence of his reported heavy use of psychedelic drugs, most prominently LSD.Many reports described him on stage, strumming one chord through the entire concert, or not playing at all. Syd Barret died at home in Cambridge on 7 July 2006,aged 60. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
