Tonight’s featured artists named one of their most well known songs after a stray they fed where they were recording an album. Can you guess the band or song?

If you guessed Led Zeppelin’s Black Dog you are correct.  Makes sense when you consider that black dog doesn’t appear anywhere in the song itself. The story goes on Songfacts the band was recording their 4th album in Hampshire England at a place called Headley Grange. This location was a bit remote and surrounded by a forest from which would wander in a Black Lab.  The dog would roam around the grounds and the band would feed it. So when it came time to title the song which had nothing obvious jumping out at them, they thought of their little canine buddy and called it ‘Black Dog’

The title does not appear in the lyrics, and has nothing to do with the song itself. The band worked up the song at Headley Grange, which was a mansion in Hampshire, England. Headley Grange was out in the country, surrounded by woods. A nameless black Labrador Retriever would wander the grounds, and the band would feed it. When they needed a name for this track - which didn't have an obvious title - they thought of the canine and went with "Black Dog."
