Tonight’s featured band drew its name from a book whose main character seems a respectable, educated man when in reality he is  wild, strange, alienated from society and repulsed by the modern age .Know who that might be??The book was written by Author Hermann Hesse and this wild, strange creature alienated from society and repulsed by the modern age was called a Steppenwolf. The name was suggested by song writer, musician and producer Gabriel Mekler who also helmed albums for the bands Three Dog Night and Janis Joplin. Mekler's contributions can be heard on psychedelic Steppenwolf tracks such as "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride".

From and unlikely place..The Smother Brother's Comedy Hour, here is 'Magic Carpet Ride'.
