Tonight’s featured artist’s share a folk song about a musket with the likes of Tom Jones and Sheryl Crow just to name a few.  Can you guess the song or band??

The song is ‘Black Betty’ by Ram Jam and it has a very interesting history and some interesting covers that have actually were hits too for the likes Spiderbait and Tom Jones. The origin of the song cited by Wikipedia is that it is most likely one of Huddie “Lead Belly” Leadbetter’s who is most often credited as being the song’s author. Story goes that he adapted it from earlier folk material done in the 18th-century which was a marching cadence about a flintlock musket.

Tonight's featured song, who wore it best?

Ram Jam

Here is the original by Lead Belly, not bad

Here is Spiderbait, something odd but the video is interesting

Sheryl Crow did a nice cover...

Tom Jones did it too and it was a little weird, just sayin'
