Tonight’s mystery artist was a school teacher in Maine who dreamed of a music career but being a realist put it out of his head fairly quickly. Think you know who this Mainah is or who he is traveling with now??

It was back in 2004 the BDN first interviewed this history and sociology at Bonny Eagle High School in Standish. He was also the varsity soccer coach teacher. He told them, “Everyone dreams of making a career in music, Realistically, I got that out of my head fairly quickly,” Said Jeff Neal drummer for the band Boston.

Jeff had kept up his musical skills playing in various bands on the weekends, but one weekend everything would change. Jeff tells the story...

“ It’s like a full-circle thing,” Neal said in a phone interview from a Boston (the city, not the band) hotel room to the BDN. “It’s been way too cool. I have to pinch myself all the time.” I helped to pay my way through the University of Maine at Farmington by playing with different bands on weekends with groups such as Eye to Eye, Stone Circus and Punchbug. It was at a late November 2002 Punchbug gig at Sunday River Ski Resort in Bethel.  After the set, this tall gentleman works his way to the stage. I’m thinking, ‘I should know this guy.’ He speaks in a low voice, and says, ‘I’m Tom Scholz from the band Boston, and I like the way you play.’ He asks if I want to audition for the band. My jaw just dropped.”

The rest is his history for this history teacher and his future as well out touring with Boston even now.

Here is tonight’s featured song.
