Tonight's mystery artist after a tragic accident that left him paralyzed he started a project for those with spinal cord injuries called Roll for Rock that would be his legacy. Think you know who he is or the band he helped found??

Many rockers through the years have struggled with drug and alcohol issues that have lead them down many an unfortunate road. So was the way of Lynyrd Skynyrd founder Allen Collins. To say that Skynyrd’s band members have seen more tragedy than any other I think is a fair statement.  According to Ultimate Classic Rock’s retelling of their plight one band member lived long enough to change his ways and hopefully create somewhat of a positive legacy.  The article I found speaks of the struggle and tragedy that Allen Collins caused himself due to the plane crash, losing his wife in child birth and then after many DUIs getting into an accident that would kill his girlfriend and leaving him a paraplegic but the story did not stop there, it reads:

Collins pleaded no contest to charges of DUI manslaughter. Although he was no longer able to play guitar, he still served as the musical director for Skynyrd’s 1987 tour — and he used that position to pay back a small portion of the loss he’d incurred, wheeling himself out onstage prior to every show and speaking to the audience about what he’d done and what it had cost. The following year, he founded Roll For Rock Wheelchair Events and Benefit Concerts, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing opportunities for people with spinal cord injuries or related physical disabilities.

Sadly, though Collins managed to turn his life around, his weakened condition after the accident contributed to a variety of health issues, and on Jan. 23, 1990, he passed away after a struggle with chronic pneumonia. Only 37 at the time of his death, Collins is buried next to his wife.

Tonight's featured song is one that Allen wrote with Ronnie back in the days...
