Tonight's mystery artist when attempting to evolve from a garage band they changed their name form what they said was corny to what they called something awful. Can you guess who they might be??

This particular story comes to us from NPR Where we look back at a Florida garage band called “The Epics”

And this is how Tom Petty says the change came about:

"We thought The Epics was too corny a name," Tom Petty once said, speaking of his garage band in Gainesville, Fla., in the late '60s. "So we picked this really terrible one." That terrible name was Mudcrutch.

It goes on to say,

In a way, the story of Mudcrutch is an alternate history of Southern rock, and 2 continues the tale of what might have been had things gone differently for a young, hungry band of small-town boys hunting down their dreams in L.A. The group that once carried Petty to stardom is now taking a victory lap, sifting through its past and basking in belated grace.

Here is tonight's classic Petty.
