Tonight’s mystery artists have a sort of unwritten rule in the band that they prefer the sound of older guitars and basses. To the point that if you come in with a new instrument you get what they call the snake eye.

This confession comes from an interview by Reverb with Heartbreakers Ron Blair and Scott Thurston. Both long time members of the band Ron tells how he chooses older basses because their sound blends with the older guitars better.  That is when Scott chimes in that Tom and the band really prefer the sound and rich quality of older instruments.
