Tonight’s mystery artists have a huge hit that was actually inspired by a piano piece played at a high school prom. Can you guess who the band is or what the song might be??

I found this interesting fact on Gibson.com when they sat down for a chat with Gary Rossington who of course is the sole surviving member of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. During that interview Gary tells how the band’s second Top 40 hit Free Bird’s had been written around the opening piano riff that Billy Powell played at a High School prom that Ronnie Van Zant had attended.  The lyrics were written around something that guitarist Allen Collins' then-girlfriend, and future wife Kathy had said, which made an impact on the musician “If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?”

Tonight's featured song:

Let's head to the prom.
