Tuesday’ mystery artist hold the top sell catalog track in iTunes history. Can you guess who they are or the top selling song??

Let’s start with the release of the song. It was back in 1981 that Journey would release ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. During that year it would climb the charts all the way to number nine. An amazing song then it is even more amazing the in 2009 a full 30 years later the song would become the top selling catalog song. In fact Wikipedia’s write up of the song says;

It is the best-selling digital track from the 20th century with over 7 million copies sold in the United States.

What caused the excitement you ask? Well they are crediting the use of the song in the series finale of the Sopranos on HBO after which the digital downloads are said to have soared. Word is this also finally prompted the band to find a replacement for Steve Perry and go back on the road.
