I-95 Drive Home Mystery Artist [VIDEO]

Tonight’s mystery artist after being crushed by girl breaking up with him tried to kill himself using furniture polish.  It didn’t work but it did inspire a song. Can you guess who he might be or the song that came out of the experience??

I found this account on a site called PageSix giving some of the more interesting stories told by Billy Joel about his life and songs.  He is quoted about feeling despondent after a breakup at the tender age of 21.  So in a funk he goes looking through his mom’s cabinets looking for a way to do himself in.  He says he’d looked at the bleach but the skull and crossbones were off putting so he settled for furniture polish guessing that is might be more palatable. The results in his own words:

“All I ended up doing was farting furniture polish for a couple of days and polishing my mother’s chairs,”

He went on to say it inspired the description of the dark side of a person in the song ‘The Stranger’.

On a different note tonight’s featured song according to Joel came to him after a night with Mick and Bianca Jagger. He says it is how he imagined Mick thinking about his then wife.
