Tonight’s mystery artists had a reviewer describe their sound as,  punk minimalism, the labyrinthine synthesizer and guitar textures of art rock, the 50's rockabilly revival and the melodious terseness of power pop — and mixed them into personal and annealing blend. Think you know who he is describing??

The review was from the NYTimes back in August of 1978 as he attempted to put your mind around the band called The Cars. The reviewer Robert Palmer went on to say:

At first glance, these blends of rock do not have much in common and at first glance neither do the personal styles of the five musicians who make up the Cars. He called Elliot Easton, admirably inventive and cliché‐free, Gregg Hawks he said would not sound out of place in a group like Yes or Genesis. He called Ric Ocasek a wonderfully gangly and droll vocalist who could have stepped out of a 50's revival band. His opinion of Ben Orr was that he looked like a refugee from an English hard‐rock group. And finally drummer, David Robinson he said, is one of those solid, metronomic, wooden‐faced percussionists, in the tradition of Ringo Starr.

Here is our power poppers with tonight's featured song to brush your rock and roll hair.
