Tonight’s mystery artist’s first hit was a cover of a blues tune that had already made the charts by Muddy Waters and Etta James,  Can you guess the song or the band that gave it its next incarnation??

Written in 1954 by Willie Dixon it made it all the way to number four on the R&B charts sung by Muddy Waters, the song was ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’

In 1961 Etta James would re-record the song changing up the lyrics just a bit and put it on the b-side of her hit song ‘At Last’

The final and our personal favorite version of the song was done in 1972 by Foghat and was released on their debut album. It made it all the way to number 83 in the Billboard Hot 100 as their first hit and then charted again in 1977 to 33 when they released it as a single.

Here they are with tonight's featured song in a great live version.

And Muddy Waters

Ms Etta's version, our second favorite.
