Tonight’s mystery artist told his band they were the best band in the world until they say they began to believe it too.  Think you know the band or their enthusiastic leader.

This is an interesting story from Classic Rock about the one time leader of the band Styx Dennis DeYoung. As JY Young would tell it:

“Dennis was incredibly motivated. He’d say: ‘We’re the best band on the planet, and that’s that!’ It used to make me laugh. But if you say something enough times, it sinks in.”

And sink in it did, by 1977 Styx everything they needed in place to go to the next level of success. Scoring a top ten US hit with the ballad Lady in 1975,  then got a contract with A&M. To cap off their future they signed up Tommy Shaw as the band’s second guitarist for 1976 album Crystal Ball, the definitive Styx line-up was in place –and it was all led by singer and pianist and visionary Dennis DeYoung.

Oddly enough here is the band without Dennis performing tonight's featured song.

You gotta say Dennis gives something to his song.
