Tonight’s mystery artist’s wrote their biggest hit because their record label though their album need one more song and said, “make it upbeat”  Think you know the band or song?

The record company was Columbia Records and this story was found on song facts being told by Warrant bassist Jerry Dixon.  Jerry tell how Columbia’s president was looking to add an anthem like song to the album before pressing. So within days they showed up with ‘Sweet Cherry Pie’  He says:

"A couple of days later 'Cherry Pie' was written, we set everything up, recorded it and there wasn't a lot of thought put into it.
It was a last minute thing so for it to turn into of the biggest things we ever did was crazy – maybe we should have done them all like that"

And yes the band confirms it’s about sex but there wasn’t any way to prove it so it got played.

And here they are with Sweet Cherry Pie.
